Earl Davidson
Family Owned – Since 1961
Following military service during WWI, Earl Davidson started a meat market in Ohio along with his wife, Dorothy. Together, they ran a successful business from the 20’s into the early 50’s while raising their three boys, Ed, Chip, and Herald. Looking for a change in the mid 50’s, the Davidson family moved to Cody, Wyoming and bought a cattle ranch. They ran the farm prosperously for about a decade until Chip’s wife was seriously injured in an accident, and Earl declared, “No piece of dirt is worth this!”
Early Days in the Pacific Northwest
They sold the ranch and took a vacation to Seattle, the city where Earl had departed from during his service and the most beautiful place they had ever seen. While there, Earl was shown Uplake Marina, and he considered it for purchase using the money earned from the sale of the ranch. Ed and Chip agreed to invest their portion of the ranch proceeds as well, and in March 1961, Davidson’s Uplake Marina was in business.
The four of them worked on running and improving the marina over the next few years. However, in 1964, Earl Davidson tragically passed away at age 62, leaving Dorothy, Ed, and Chip to run the facility. In 1970, the company was renamed Davidson’s Marina, and in 1999, marina operations were sold to Cap Sante Marine. In August 2006, Lori Johnson and Loren McLaughlin purchased operations from Cap Sante Marine, and North Lake Marina was born. Finally, in 2014, Chip and his three sons, Bill, Jim, and Tom, bought back ownership of the business.

The Davidsons are running the marina once again and aim to return the facility to a high-quality, family-friendly business. We have begun the process of putting some TLC back into the docks and buildings, and in recent years, North Lake Marina has seen a transformation back to happier days.
